Bhajan Grewal is a Professorial Fellow in the Centre for Strategic Economic Studies at Victoria University, where he is also Director of the Governance and Regional Economies Program. From 1993 to 2003, he was the Founding Deputy Director of the same Centre. He is also an Honorary Visiting Professor at the Shanxi University of Finance and Economics in Taiyuan.
Bhajan’s research interests are in the areas of public finance, fiscal governance, institutional capacity building, fiscal federalism, and regional inequalities. He has published widely, including nine books, and numerous research articles.
He was Team Leader of an ADB-funded project on China’s fiscal management reforms, undertaken at the Ministry of Finance in Beijing. The report of this project was published by the ADB, Manila, in both English and Chinese languages.
Before joining Victoria University in 1993, Bhajan served as Director, Revenue Policy and Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations in Victoria’s Department of Treasury and Finance.
Bhajan was awarded a JSPS Fellowship by the Japanese Society for Promotion of Science, to conduct research and give seminars on public finance issues in several universities in Osaka and Tokyo. He has previously held lecturing and research positions at the Australian National University, James Cook University and Punjabi University.
